产区简介/ Brief Introduction

2003年，宁夏贺兰山东麓通过“葡萄酒国家地理标志产品”保护区认证，但是还未得到政府和企业的重视，葡萄酒产业发展缓慢。

In 2003, the Helan Mountain’s East Foothill Wine Region was certificated as the reserve area of “National Geographic Indication”. Even though, the region did not gain much attention from the government and investment, the development was slow.

2008年，泰国德盛集团在这片土地上启动建设了10万亩葡萄种植基地，之后一些葡萄酒知名企业“王朝”，“张裕”，“长城”，国际品牌“轩尼诗”，“保乐力加”也相继落户宁夏，推进了产业发展。

In 2008, Daysun Group from Thailand launched the construction of its vineyard, which covers 6,000 hectares. Some of the well-known Chinese wine groups including “Dynasty”, “Change”, “Great Wall”, and the international renowned wine group “Hennessy”, “Pernod Ricard” were settled in Ningxia. These investment greatly improved the development of Ningxia Wine Region.

2011年，贺兰晴雪酒庄的“加贝兰”获得Decanter世界葡萄酒大赛金奖，开启了宁夏葡萄酒走向世界的大门。2012年，Jancis Robinson 在品鉴了贺兰山东麓产区的8款白葡萄酒和32款红葡萄酒后，给出了“贺兰山是中国最具潜力的葡萄酒产区”的这一令人鼓舞的评价，同年12月，《宁夏贺兰山东麓葡萄酒产区条例》颁布，这是中国第一部葡萄酒产区地方性法规。

In 2011, JiaBeiLan from Helan Qing Xue Winery won the golden prize from Decanter World Wine Awards, which opened the door to the world for Ningxia Wine. In 2012, the most world famous wine writer- Jancis Robinson tasted 8 white wines and 32 red wines from Ningxia, said that “Henlan Mountain is the most potential Chinese wine region”. In December of the same year, “The regulation of Helan Mountain’s East Foothill Wine Region, Ningxia” was implemented, which is the first regional wine regulation in China.

2013年，《宁夏贺兰山东麓葡萄酒产区列级酒庄评定管理办法》实施，这也是全国首个葡萄酒列级酒庄评定管理办法。贺兰山东麓进入产区规范发展新时代。

In 2013, “The classification of Grand Cru in Helan Mountain’s East Foothill Wine Region, Ningxia” was launched, and it was the first winery classification regulation. From then on, Helan Mountain stepped into a new era of standardized development.

近些年，宁夏的本土品牌在国际，国内的葡萄酒质量大赛中取得了众多骄人战绩，几乎囊括了所有的奖牌，成为中国葡萄酒的佼佼者，并受到世界瞩目。在迅速发展起来的中国葡萄酒产区中，宁夏如同一匹黑马，在国际葡萄酒舞台上骁勇疾驰，遥遥领先且冲劲十足，创造着一个又一个“紫色传奇”。

In recent years, Ningxia’s local brands have made numerous honors in international and domestic wine competitions. By nearly sweeping all the medals, Ningxia wine has becoming a shining star in Chinese wine industry and has impressed the whole world. Ningxia is like a black stallion, which gallops ahead in the international arena and creates a wine legend.

风土宝地：“山河相拥，山川夹廊”

Land of Treasure

贺兰山东麓位于北纬37-39度，处于银川平原西部边缘。位于西面的贺兰山山脉绵延200多公里，气势恢宏，阻隔了西部戈壁沙漠的风沙和冷空气，增加积温，降低霜冻灾害；东边黄河流经，提供灌溉水源。所谓“山河相拥，山川夹廊”。

宁夏显著特征是日照时间长，太阳辐射强，降水少，空气湿度小，气温日较差较大。产区属于大陆行干旱半干旱气候，夏季干热，春秋冷凉。平均海拔1000米以上，有效积温（>=10C）在3400-3800间，气温日较差12-15度，日照时数1700-2400h。年降水量150-240mm。土壤类型丰富，主要是灰钙土，变化来源于土壤中沙粒，砾土和粘土的不同比例。由于洪水多年冲刷贺兰山，靠近山的土壤历史含量较高，也拥有冲刷下来的更多微量元素。宁夏产区土壤总体非常贫瘠，有机质含量低，通气透水性强，持水量少。贫瘠控制了产量，低持水性促进了葡萄根系的下扎，利于吸收深层矿物质，增加葡萄酒的风味和复杂性。长时间的日照和高强度使得葡萄有很好的成熟度，颜色浓郁。

Located at northern latitude of 37- 39, Helan Mountain’s East Foothill is on the western edge of the Yinchuan Plain. The spectacular Helan Mountain stretches more than 200 kilometers in the west, providing a natural barrier to the Sand storm & cold wind from Gobi Desert, increasing accumulated temperature and reducing the frost disaster. The Yellow River flows through the east, providing water for irrigation. As a result, there formed a natural geography pattern: “Mountain hugging the river with a corrridor in the middle”.

Situated in the interior areas of northwestern plateau in China, Helan Mountain’s East Foothill wine region enjoys a semidry-dry Continental Climate, with a dry & hot Summer, cold Winter & Spring, and an average elevation of over 1000 meters. The major feature of Ningxia is the long sunshine duration (1700-2000), strong solar radiation, low percipitation (150-240mm) & humidity, large temperature difference between daytime and night, which is between 12-15C. The accumulated temperature here is between 3400-3800 C.

The soil types vary, mostly is Calcareous soil. The vacation comes from the different percentage of clay, sand and stone. Because of the erosion by the flood, the soils at the foothill of mountain contain more gravel and minerals from the mountain. In general the soil is very poor, low in organic elements, but with great drainage, low water holding capacity. The poor quality controls quantity, low water percentage encourages the deep vine roots and absorbing minerals from underground, increasing the complexity of wine flavors. The long-time and strong sunshine help the maturation of grapes.

酒庄模式：小酒庄，大产区

Winery Model: Small Winery, Big Area

7年前宁夏葡萄酒产区还是以大酒厂发展为主，政府鼓励农民种植葡萄，卖给酒厂，实行工业化生产，这种模式不乏成功的产区：烟台和昌黎。可在宁夏这种模式似乎行不通：酒厂没有品牌和市场，产品卖不出去，利润非常低。酒庄进一步压低果农的原材料价格，果农只有通过提高产量增收来平衡收益，代价就是降低了质量，而酒厂需要高品质，低价格的产品打开市场。无形中酒厂与果农的矛盾越来越尖锐。宁夏需要一条不一样的路。

根据“小酒庄，大产区”的模式，至2020年宁夏产区围绕着贺兰山东麓文化旅游长廊，110国道两侧将建成包含300个酒庄的两个葡萄酒文化城，5个酒庄集群。

Seven years ago, the wine industry in Ningxia was mainly a large-wineries centric model. The government encourages the farmers growing grapes and selling to wineries, which creates an industrialized production, just like other successful wine regions- Yantai and Changli. However, this model did not work well in Ningxia- without brand awareness and market, the products couldn’t be sold, resulting a very low profit. Hence the wineries tried to pay less for the grapes. In order to keep profit, the farmers had to increase the yield, which directly reduced the grape quality. Without high quality grapes, the wines were made with lower quality, which made the marketing harder. The conflicts between winery and farmer were generated, and these contradictions became increasingly intense. Ningxia needs a different model.

According to the model of “Small Winery, Big Area”. Till 2020, Ningxia will have a wine tourism corridor. Along the National Road 110, there will be around 300 wineries and become a region with two wine cultural city and within 5 winery clusters.

酒庄分级/ Winery Classification

作为中国唯一一个实行葡萄酒庄列级酒庄管理制度的产区，宁夏自治区首次在2013年为贺兰山东麓出产的葡萄酒引进了分级制，10家酒庄在第一年获选为首批五级列级酒庄。2016年，当地政府将分级制度扩展为五个等级，其中一级酒庄为最高等级。该分级制度每两年重新评定一次。

As the only one and the first Chinese wine classification region, Ningxia Wine Region implemented the classification in 2013. 10 wineries were rewarded the 5th growth in 2013. In 2016, the local government regulated 5 different levels of the classification from 1st growth to 5th growth- 1st growth is the highest- the same as Bordeaux classification. The classification is renewed every two years.
